The Ball Thing

This is that bizarre ball applet you may have seen elsewhere on the Net. I liked it so much I appropriated it! Check it out!

(FYI, an applet is a Web-based program. For our purposes, the applet is the thing below under the heading "Click the balls to start".)

The buttons on the right and on the bottom of the applet are described in the table below. To start the balls moving, scroll down to the applet below, and click on the balls in the red and blue "AZ" pattern at the left of the applet.

BTW, If you don't see the balls, or if some of the buttons are out of place after scrolling, just reload the page by clicking the "Refresh" or "Reload" button on your browser.

Here's the button legend:

  1. Colour - the color of the balls
  2. Round - the circular speed ("angular velocity" for you physicist geeks)
  3. Radial - the radial speed ("radial velocity" for the geeks)
  4. Diameter - the diameter of the balls
  5. H Light & V Light - horizontal & vertical position of the light source
  6. Phong - just try it!
  7. Mirror - reflectance--makes the balls shiny or dull
  8. Ambient - flood light vs. spot light
  9. [1] - [12] - a dozen motion presets
Don't worry if you don't understand any of the above. Just have fun clicking the << and >> and numbered buttons. It's not rocket science!
