I was born in New York City. I lived in the city with my mother through the eighth grade. From there, I spent a year living in Coral Gables, Florida, with my aunt and uncle, after which I moved to Stamford, Connecticut, to live with my father. I attended Stamford High until my graduation in 1974.
That fall, I began my college career at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, studying electrical engineering and leaving after my junior year to find fulfillment as a computer technician in the Boston area. While at UConn, I met my first wife, Martha. We were married from 1980 until 1984. During that time, we moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire. Not finding the desired fulfillment as a technician, I finished my bachelor's degree at night at Northeastern University (ironically enough, the mascot of both universities is the Husky). The following year, I started taking graduate courses at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Engineers), then enrolled--briefly--in the Graduate School at Northeastern for a Master's in electrical engineering.
The night school experience being quite stressful, I swore off higher education--until I decided that hardware engineering was a shrinking field, and I decided to return to Boston University (Terriers) for a computer science degree. I graduated one day shy of my 34th birthday. During that time, I married my second wife, Marlene.
Marlene and I shared a home in Manchester, NH, until, sadly, we separated in 1995. We had no children of our own, but we were licensed foster parents. We hosted several very special children in our home and they in turn brought us many hours of joy (not to mention more than a few of sheer exhaustion).
I enjoy ballroom dancing, camping, bicycling, cross-country skiing (I finally bought a pair of skis in 1998!) and dining out. I also enjoy The X Files, sleeping late, reading anything and everything in sight, and of course, spending far too much time in front of my PC while surfin' the Net.
In the summer of 2002, I sold my Manchester house to the State of New Hampshire, and bought a home in Somersworth to be closer to the love of my life, Catherine. On October 13, we were married in a small ceremony in our home, and had our wedding reception at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Portsmouth (now known once again as the Portsmouth Ballroom). In July 2004, Catherine and I welcomed our beautiful daughter Rebecca Sinéad into the world. You may see her here.
